Materials, colours and sizes

See what we can print, the available materials and colours, maximum part size and expected accuracy before uploading a file.

How we print

We use FDM printing, building the part layer by layer from plastic. It is the most common and affordable process for replacement parts, brackets, prototypes, enclosures and miniatures. We print in Küsnacht and inspect every part by hand before shipping.

We are equally clear about what we do not offer: metal, selective laser sintering or resin. If your part requires one of these processes, we will tell you directly.

Materials and colours

The right material depends on how the part will be used. PLA suits decorative parts, models and display pieces. PETG or PLA CF are better choices for parts exposed to loads, heat or chemicals.

PETG Basic

Tough and resistant to chemicals and heat. Suitable for functional parts, enclosures, mechanical components and moderately loaded parts.

BlackWhite

PLA Basic

Rigid, dimensionally stable and capable of good detail. Suitable for models, prototypes and decorative parts.

Colours on request

PLA CF

Very rigid, strong and resistant to warping. Suitable for functional parts, technical models and robust prototypes.

Black

PLA Matte

A smooth matte surface with good dimensional stability and detail. Suitable for models, prototypes and decorative parts.

Latte Brown

We regularly expand the colour range. If you need a colour or material that is not listed, such as PETG-CF or a specific RAL colour, use “Request material or colour” in the configurator and we will check it for your project.

Which layer height to choose

A smaller layer height produces a finer surface but takes longer to print and therefore costs more. A larger layer height prints faster and is more visible on curved surfaces.

  • 0.08 to 0.12 mm – miniatures, figures, visible edges and fine lettering
  • 0.16 to 0.20 mm – the usual choice for replacement parts, brackets and prototypes
  • 0.24 mm – large parts where surface detail is less important

Infill

Infill controls how much material is inside the part. Standard (15%) is enough for most uses. Strong (45%) is useful when the part carries a load, such as a bracket holding an object. You can also choose a custom infill from 1% to 100%. If you are unsure, describe the load instead of guessing.

What works well and what is difficult

Works well

  • Parts with flat surfaces, holes and straight edges
  • Enclosures, lids, adapters and spacers
  • Lettering and logos with strokes at least 0.8 mm wide
  • Moving joints with sufficient clearance

More difficult

  • Very thin freestanding ribs and points
  • Large overhangs without support structures
  • Parts continuously exposed to more than about 50 °C (PLA) or 70 °C (PETG)
  • Fits requiring accuracy to hundredths of a millimetre

Frequently asked questions

Which materials does Printimir offer?
PLA Basic, PLA Matte, PLA CF and PETG Basic, all printed using FDM. TPU and other materials are not currently stocked; we assess special requests such as PETG-CF individually.
How large can my part be?
Up to 256 × 256 × 256 mm in one piece. We can split and bond larger parts after agreeing the approach with you.
How accurate is the print?
Allow for a dimensional tolerance of ±0.3 mm or ±0.5%, whichever is greater. FDM cannot reliably produce fits requiring hundredths of a millimetre.
Which file formats can I upload?
STL, OBJ, 3MF, STEP and STP, up to 500 MB per file.
Can you print in metal or resin?
No. We print plastics using FDM only. We are not the right provider for metal, selective laser sintering (SLS) or resin, and will tell you directly if your project needs one of those processes.
I need a colour that is not listed.
Use “Request material or colour” in the configurator. We will check availability and any surcharge for your project.
