### How Printimir helps

Filamentfactory (ALG Tech Solutions GmbH) makes filament in Schwyz. On a line they built themselves, granulate is dried, coloured, melted and drawn into 1.75 mm filament. Filamentfactory buys the PLA granulate and colour masterbatches in Germany. So for us Swiss filament means extruded in Switzerland, not made entirely from Swiss raw materials.

Materials and colours are shown from the currently available range. Suitability, timing and quantity depend on the specific model and are not promised without reviewing it.

### Typical applications

- Parts for companies, schools or clubs that want to state where the material comes from
- Products you sell yourself and want printed with Swiss filament
- Anything you would otherwise print in PLA Basic or PETG Basic

### What Swiss filament means at Printimir

- **Extruded in Switzerland:** by Filamentfactory in Schwyz, on their own extrusion line.
- **Raw materials from abroad:** the PLA granulate and colour masterbatches come from Germany; for PETG, Filamentfactory names raw materials from Europe.
- **Traceable:** every spool has a QR code with the batch and the diameter log from production.
- **Cardboard spools:** the filament comes on cardboard spools instead of plastic ones.
- **Not recycled:** the current filament is not made from recycled material.
- **Printed like Basic:** we print PLA Swiss with the same settings as PLA Basic and PETG Swiss like PETG Basic. The configurator shows which colours are available right now.

Filamentfactory explains how the filament is made on [filamentfactory.ch](https://filamentfactory.ch/so-produzieren-wir/) (in German). Which of the two materials suits your part is covered in the guide [Which material for which use](https://printimir.ch/en/guides/which-3d-printing-material-for-which-use).

### How much does 3D printing cost?

Swiss filament costs a little more per gram than PLA Basic and PETG Basic. You see the exact price for your model right after uploading when you choose PLA Swiss or PETG Swiss.

### Frequently asked questions

#### Is the filament Swiss made?

We deliberately say “extruded in Switzerland”. The filament is made in Schwyz, but the PLA granulate and colour masterbatches come from Germany.

#### Is Swiss filament recycled?

No, the current filament is not made from recycled material.

#### Do you print Swiss filament differently?

No. We print it with the same settings as PLA Basic and PETG Basic. The same advice applies when choosing between PLA and PETG.

#### Which colours are available?

The configurator shows the available colours as soon as you choose PLA Swiss or PETG Swiss.

#### How much does printing with Swiss filament cost?

A little more than with PLA Basic or PETG Basic, because the filament costs more. You see the price for your model right after uploading.
